James A. Hoko, Ph.D, BCBA-D

Director, Behavior Services and Autism Programs (BSAP)


Dr. Hoko received a Ph.D. in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1988 and has been with ACES since 1988 providing consultation/training primarily in developing pedagogic systems, instructional design, and behavior management.  For four years prior to joining the ACES team, Jim held a Professional Traineeship with the National Institute of Mental Health.  During this time, he conducted research and published articles on instructional assessment and pedagogic strategies for children in collaboration with Professor Donald Baer, Barbara Etzel, and Judith LeBlanc from KU’s Department of Human Development and Family Life.  Dr. Hoko has consulted in numerous school districts and throughout ACES programs.  For the past twelve years, he has provided leadership in the conception, development, and management of ACES ABA Autism Programs.  Since 2015, Jim has served as the Director of ACES Behavior Services and Autism Programs and now oversees all Applied Behavior Analysis services provided by ACES to school districts, families, students, and outside agencies.  The department now employs more than 130 individual staff including:
